PLOFLON® PTFE as a material for vehicle construction

Polytetrafluoroethylene is particularly temperature-stable and chemically resistant. It retains its shape, even under mechanical stress, and has excellent sliding properties. This is a great advantage for vehicle construction. Moving components can work more efficiently, friction and wear are reduced, and the weight is low.

PLOFLON® PTFE is also hydrophobic, non-conductive and flame-retardant. These properties make it interesting for applications in drive systems, chassis, bodywork and interiors.

Friction reduction for moving parts

A typical area of application for PLOFLON® PTFE products in vehicle construction is friction reduction. PLOFLON® supplies PTFE adhesive tapes and films for this purpose, which are used, for example, in seat guides, window regulators or clutch mechanisms. They also improve smoothness and reduce noise in steering columns, hinges and damping systems.

The tapes are easy to apply and also adhere to painted or coated surfaces. They remain effective even when exposed to temperature fluctuations and permanent stress.

Protective coatings and insulating materials

PTFE films from PLOFLON are also used in vehicle construction to protect against heat, moisture or aggressive media. In the engine compartment or exhaust area, they protect sensitive components, cable harnesses or sensors from environmental influences.

They also have an electrically insulating effect and can be used as separating layers in battery modules, control units or sensor housings. Due to the low material thickness, they can be integrated in a space-saving manner and can be processed mechanically.

Special parts for customised vehicle concepts

In addition to standardised products, PLOFLON® offers  also offers customised PTFE components. These are manufactured to specification and precisely fulfil the mechanical, thermal or chemical requirements of the respective application.

Examples include bearing bushes for swivelling mechanisms, sealing elements in fuel or cooling circuits or non-stick coatings in air ducting systems. PLOFLON® can also provide rapid support for prototypes or small series with flexible production.

Lightweight construction and durability in one

PTFE helps to save weight without compromising on stability. Compared to metallic sliding or sealing systems, PTFE is significantly lighter and requires no additional lubrication. This has a positive effect on consumption, installation space and service life - factors that are increasingly being focussed on in vehicle development.
